The Daily Boom: Tuesday, June 30, 2026

Welcome back to The Daily Boom, your favorite morning cup of coffee in digital form. Can you believe we are officially wrapping up June? Half the year is gone, and frankly, I’m still trying to remember where I left my reading glasses from yesterday. (Spoiler: They were on my head).

Today, let’s talk about a universal truth we all face: technology. It’s supposed to make our lives easier, but most days, it just feels like it’s testing our blood pressure.

Internet Humor of the Day

Here is a little gem making the rounds on social media this week that hit a bit too close to home:

Grandkid: “Grandpa, do you know what clouds are made of?”

Grandpa: “Well, nowadays, mostly Linux servers and un-backed-up photos of your grandmother’s garden, but back in my day, it was just water vapor.”

And another one for anyone who has tried to log into a bank account lately:

  • Website: “Please choose a secure password.”
  • Me: Enters password.
  • Website: “Password must contain a capital letter, a number, a symbol, a hieroglyph, a drop of unicorn blood, and the secret ingredient to your grandmother’s brisket.”

The “Smart” Home Dilemma

I recently decided to upgrade to a “smart” refrigerator. Why does my fridge need to connect to the Wi-Fi? I have no idea. Last night, I opened it looking for a midnight snack, and it sent an alert to my phone telling me I was violating my steps-to-calories ratio for the day.

I don’t need that kind of judgment from an appliance. Whatever happened to the good old days when a refrigerator’s only job was to keep the milk cold and hold up a colorful collection of travel magnets?
