First, a distinction: some confusion is healthy. It’s the feeling at the
start of learning anything new, and it means your brain is hard at
work. Unhealthy confusion is the kind that hangs around, raises your
blood pressure, and makes you want to toss the router out the
window. That’s the kind we’re after.
“Being confused is the doorstep of learning.
Staying confused is just standing on the porch.”
Cure One: One Thing at a Time
Multitasking is a myth invented by people who never had to do it. Pick
one task, finish it, then pick the next. The fog thins quickly when the
brain isn’t juggling.
Cure Two: Write It Down
The notepad is the most reliable device ever made. It never needs
charging, never updates, and never moves its buttons. Jot down the
steps, the appointments, and the names of things. Write the steps
once and you’ll never solve the same puzzle twice.
Cure Three: Ask Without Apology
Ask a grandchild, a neighbor, a librarian, or the nice person at the
store. Asking isn’t weakness. It’s efficient delegation, a skill many of
us perfected during our working years.

Cure Four: Feed, Rest, and Move
Water, a decent night’s sleep, a real lunch, and a stroll around the
block clear a foggy head better than any gadget. One caution,
offered with love: if confusion comes on suddenly, grows worse, or
seems out of character for you or someone you love, don’t wait it out.
Call your doctor.
Cure Five: Laugh at It
Nothing resets a tense moment like a good laugh. Retell the story of
the day the milk ended up in the pantry. Laughing at confusion takes
away its power, and the story is usually worth keeping.
Perspective Is Our Specialty
Boomers have a gift that younger folks are still working on:
perspective. We know the panic of the moment rarely matches its
real size. We’ve lost keys, jobs, and entire decades of fashion sense,
and carried on. When someone younger is rattled by a glitch, we can
calmly say, “I’ve been here before. Let’s take it one step at a time.ˮ
That calm is worth more than any tech support line.
Now it’s your turn. What’s your best cure for a foggy day?
